Lunchtime at an Exmouth Care Home nearly ended in tragedy when a resident began choking on a peeled tomato. Care staff delivered choking Basic Life Support but the object did not budge.
Fortunately the home is equipped with Dechoker ACD kits with staff trained in both how and when to use them. Within moments of being deployed the resident was able to breath again.

Paramedics attended as expected, and after reviewing the resident decided an trip to hospital wasn’t necessary.
This is perhaps just as well given the nearest Accident & Emergency is a nearly 12 miles away in the middle of Exeter.
A welcome relief to all considering the outcome was nearly very different.
