The Dementia, Care & Nursing Home Expo Awards are designed to showcase the very best innovative and cutting edge products, services and expertise currently available to help care, nursing and residential homes.
The Excellence in Innovation Award specifically acknowledges the products and services that have noticeably improved the quality of care in the industry, with the award for 2019 going to Dechoker.
Ten companies were nominated in all, with judges drawn from senior leaders of providers including Majesticare, Friends of the Elderly, Methodist Homes for the Aged and Friends of the Elderly.
Commenting on the award, Dechoker CEO Matt Oakley said, “To receive an award where the judging panel is made up of experienced and respected professionals from the Adult Care sector makes it even more special.
The team at Dechoker have and will continue to work hard to raise awareness of the dangers of choking within the sector and hope that this award can go somewhere to helping us achieve this.” he continued.
Since it was launched the simple device has been used to prevent over a dozen choking deaths in care and nursing homes throughout the UK, with all of them food related incidents.
Figures published last year by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed the number of choking related deaths that occur in care and nursing homes was five times worse than originally thought, with conditions such as Dementia, Alzheimer’s and stroke masking the true scale of the problem.
