Carers at a Manchester care home found themselves turning to their Dechoker ACD for help when a resident proved too heavy to lift.
Repeated back blows failed to dislodge the obstruction. Attempts to deliver abdominal thrusts however were found to be impossible as carers could not support the the resident in order to deliver them.
The resident, who was unable to stand but not overweight, began choking in their food resulting in carers stepping in with a well practiced procedure.
This ensured a Dechoker ACD was already on hand when needed.
