This year’s National Association of Safety and Health in Care Services (NASHICS) ceremony saw Yorkare Homes presented with the ‘Best Practice’ award for 2019
The Yorkshire based care provider was judged to have taking innovative steps towards improving staff and resident safety after deploying DeChoker devices across all their homes earlier this year.
It wasn’t long afterwards however, that the already award-winning DeChoker ACD was called upon in a choking emergency by carer Jodie when a resident began choking .

Chris Jackson (National Chair of NASHICS) attended Magdalen Park to present Ivy (Resident), Nicole (Registered Manager), Laura (Residential Care Manager) and Jonathan (Operations Director) with a certificate and £150, which we have put in the residents fund.
Speaking about the award, Chris said ‘Congratulations to Yorkare Homes. We received a very impressive set of nominations this year, highlighting some high-quality and thought-provoking initiatives.
‘It is encouraging that so many providers are taking responsibility for developing new, efficient approaches to managing health and safety.’ he continued.
Andy Hollinghshead of Barchester collected the award on Yorkare’s behalf.
Nicole added ‘We are delighted to have won this award, a big thank you to NASHICS. Also a huge well done to Jodie, we are all so proud of you!’
Also commenting on the award, Matt Oakley CEO of DeChoker UK said,
‘It is fantastic to see a Yorkare recognised for their proactive approach to improving resident safety, especially one where DeChoker has been able to support them in achieving this.
‘The fact that our equipment proved so beneficial and in such a short space of time I hope also focus some attention on the significant issues faced managing choking risk in the sector.’
